Today's Home: Backyard fireplaces

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Are you thinking of getting a backyard fireplace?

Chris H. Olsen with Botanica Gardens filled us in on how to get our backyards warm and cozy in Today's Home.

If you are thinking about building a fireplace or a fire pit in your backyard, here's a few things you might want to consider.

A fire pit is a little bit more functional because people can all sit around it and they all can stay warm. It's also cheaper than a fireplace, but a fireplace sure is a beautiful focal point, plus it creates a room setting outdoors.

This fireplace is big and the whole purpose of it is to be the focal point in the backyard. It was all constructed with concrete blocks, then on the outside of it we facaded it with native rock.

We used native rock to this area because it's more economical. We did two mantles because it's something different, then we added a big lantern.

Also, you don't always have to use wood. We are using gas logs here because you don't end up leaving smelling like smoke, and therefore a lot of people are going to sit more towards the fire. You can also turn it on and off when you want.

Create yourself great furniture as well that is moveable so people can move as they want around the fireplace.
